Nepal breaks T20I records
With the men’s cricket event of the 2023 Asian Games starting on Wednesday, the Nepal team created history by breaking several T20 International (T20I) records. Kushal Malla wrote the record books in T20 International history by scoring the fastest century and Deepender Singh Airie scored the highest score ever by scoring the fastest half-century in the history of the format.
He achieved this feat during the matches against Mongolia. This match also marks the beginning of men’s cricket competition in the continental competition.
Yuvi’s fastest 50 meters record broken
Batting first against Mongolia in the Asian Games Group A match, Nepal scored 314-3 in 20 overs, surpassing Afghanistan’s 278/3 against Ireland in 2019. During the run-fest, Deependra Singh Airi broke Yuvraj Singh’s fastest run record. , A half-century off 12 balls, which he scored against England in the 2007 World T20. Deependra completed his milestone by scoring fifty in just 9 balls against Mongolia. He remained unbeaten on 52 runs in 10 balls and hit eight sixes without any fours. His strike rate of 520 is also these best in a T20I inningns.
He also hit a total of 26 sixes in his innings, which is the most number of sixes in an innings by any team in the history of this format. He surpassed Afghanistan’s record of 22 sixes which helped them achieve 278/3 in 2019.
Kushal Malla also left T20I legends like India’s Rohit Sharma and South Africa’s David Miller behind to reach the fastest T20I century in just 34 balls. Malla scored 137 runs in 50 balls with the help of eight fours and 12 sixes.
Notably, Rohit and Miller have centuries off 35 balls, but Malla has now broken these records by smashing the hapless Mongolian bowling attack all over the park.
India’s men’s cricket campaign swill begin with the quarter-finals in October 3. The title clash will be played on October on 7.
