The Saudi government has been actively investing in a number of sports, having entered Formula 1 with the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix as well as LIV Golf. His next aim is to maximize cricket's untapped potential.

The Gulf state is planning to create the richest T20 league in the world, and they have approached the IPL owners regarding the same, having joined as sponsors for the 2023 IPL season.

Saudi Arabia's government representatives' proposal for its richest T20 league may have to convince BCCI to amend its rules.

According to a report by The Age, talks over Saudi Arabia's league have been ongoing for nearly a year, and any potential league formed in the Gulf would have to be sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and member countries, including the Australia.

Earlier, ICC President Greg Barclay had confirmed that Saudi Arabia is looking to invest heavily in cricket, after pumping funds into other sports such as football and F1.

“If you look at other sports they've been involved in, cricket is something I imagine would be attractive to them,”
