What is Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana?
The Ministry of Women and Child Development has implemented a maternity assistance initiative which provides a financial reward of ₹ 5000/- to expectant mothers aged 19 years and above during their first live birth. This incentive is divided into three payments, which can be claimed at specific intervals: 150 days, 180 days and on childbirth. The program is designed to benefit female employees who experienced a loss of wages due to their pregnancy.

Who can avail the scheme?
- Applicant must be female.
- Applicant must be pregnant.
- Applicant must be employed and facing loss of salary due to pregnancy.
- Applicant must be at least 19 years of age.
- This scheme is applicable for first live birth only.
Benefits available for the scheme
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana a cash incentive of ₹5000 is given in three installments –
- First installment – ₹1000/- on early registration of pregnancy at an Anganwadi Center (AWC) / approved health facility.
- Second installment – ₹2000/- At least one antenatal checkup (ANC) is received after six months of pregnancy.
- 3rd installment – ₹2000/- after registration of birth and child has received first cycle of BCG, OPV, DPT and Hepatitis – B, or its equivalent/substitute.
Eligible beneficiaries will get the incentive provided under Jan Suraksha Yojana (JSY) for institutional maternity and the incentive received under JSY will be counted towards maternity benefit so that an average woman will get ₹6000/-.
Note: All pregnant women and lactating mothers who are regularly employed in Central Government or State Government or Public Sector Undertaking or who are receiving similar benefits under any law for the time being in force are not entitled to benefit under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). .

When can I apply for second installment?
The second installment can be claimed after 180 days of the applicant’s last menstrual period (LMP).
Beneficiary will get benefit in case of miscarriage or death of child?
The beneficiary will continue to receive installments until the pregnancy is activated. The benefit is paid in three installments based on pregnancy milestones, in case of stillbirth the beneficiary will get at least two installments. The date of abortion will be a factor in determining whether benefits will continue.
